We have decided that in 2010 we, as a church community, are going to renew our personal commitment to the study and interaction with scripture through daily reading and journaling.
We are going to make both a reading plan and journals available to you to aid you in this, as well as anything else you may need.
You can find reading plans here online or at our welcome center. The LifeJournals can be purchased from the church for $6.50 or at www.lifejournal.cc. Or you can use your own journaling system.
How you do it isn't as important as that you take every opportunity that you can to interact with the Scriptures this year and let God speak to you through them.
A Message from Pastor Paul...
Dear GWC family:
I just wanted to send you a word of encouragement. God will speak to you through his Word. Weekly worship is vital for all of us, but if the only word from God you get is on Sunday mornings during the sermon, you will suffer from spiritual malnutrition.. Do your best to get into the Word each day.
Remember to journal with S.O.A.P:
S=Scripture – Write or type out a verse or two from your daily
reading that especially speaks to you.
O=Observation – Journal what God is saying through his Word.
What is happening? Why? Who is affected?
A=Application – Journal how you can apply what God is saying
to your life and circumstances.
P=Prayer – As your pray, write out at least the part of your
prayer that is your conversation with God about how he
has spoken to you through his Word and how you seek his
presence to make the truth a part of how you live and his
guidance and provision for you.
Also remember:
1. Your journal a place to journal your journey with God as he speaks to you through his Word—it is not a diary or a place to keep track of you random thoughts.
2. You can use the daily bible readings from the website (the Life Journal readings) so we will all be reading together, or use your own plan. If you miss a day or two do not try to catch up—just be sure to focus on the reading for the day. If you have some extra time to catch up later you can always go back to the passages you have not read. Also, if you are new at this or young in faith, you may just want to do the New Testament readings this year.
3. When you have your daily time with God you will need your Bible, a journal and pen (or your on computer journal), your Bible reading plan, and your daily planner (so you can rid your mind of the distractions by writing them on your to do list and concentrate on you time with God).
4. If you want to lean more about the vital importance of Scripture in your life and establish your legacy, I would encourage you to read “The Divine Mentor” by Wayne Cordeiro.
5. There is only ONE book that is “God breathed” and it was written for us.
6. Spending time with GOD will CHANGE YOUR LIFE, draw you close to God, give you divine guidance, prepare you for the future, and bring light, blessing, strength and his joy to your life.
Take care of your soul first!
1 Tim 4 ….Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
Blessings!
Pastor Paul
